About this tour
Mumbai's mornings belong to two places: the Dadar flower market, where mountains of marigolds, roses and jasmine arrive before sunrise for the city's temples and weddings, and Dhobi Ghat, where washermen have scrubbed, boiled and dried the city's laundry by hand since 1890.
We meet at Dadar station at 7 in the morning, when the flower market is at its loudest and most colourful. Your guide walks you through the wholesale lanes, explains who buys what (and why marigolds are everywhere) and finds you a cutting chai.
Then three stops on the local train to Mahalaxmi. After the view from the bridge, we go inside Dhobi Ghat with a family who work there: the concrete wash pens, the steam boilers, the drying lines on the rooftops and the street art on its walls.
A short, easy tour that photographers love, and a good way to start a day in Mumbai. Musafire (people also search for us as Musafir) runs it every morning; private tours can start earlier.
